My Christmas Playlist - Blogmas Day 14

I'm such a sucker for a Christmas playlist that I activate it on my iPod on 1st November every year. It's the perfect accompaniment to a festive stroll around Christmas markets or to listen to whilst traveling home for Christmas. When I was a student I'd listen to Christmas songs on the train the whole way home for the holidays.

What songs would you add to your Christmas playlist?

Throwback Thursday - The 90s Pop Playlist

Ever since the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour earlier this month, albeit without my fave Vicky B, I've been reminiscing about all the cheesey pop songs that were the soundtrack to my 90s childhood. I remember making up dance routines to C'est la Vie and copying Steps' moves to One For Sorrow every playtime and honestly, I thought I was destined for pop stardom. Sadly that wasn't to be but a quick flick through this playlist and I'm right back in the 90s wearing my crop top and pedal pushers.

I hope these songs bring back some memories for you too, what else were you listening to in the 90s?

February Playlist: We live in cities you'll never see on screen

My playlist seems to suggest I've been partying this month when in fact I've done the opposite. Perhaps numerous uni deadlines and long evenings in the library has leant itself to escapism through music.

Song About Love is the none up-beat song I've been listening to a lot this month. With the lyrics of a indie ballad and less of a country feel than some of his other offering, this will be the one to put his second album on the map.

I've loved each of Rudimental's offerings so far and Powerless is not different. Becky Hill's vocals are flawless, she was a contestant on The Voice and I have no idea how she didn't win.

Lorde can do no wrong in my opinion. Her Brits performance of Royals earlier this month was flawless but Team has more of a electro-dance vibe taking her music to a whole new level.

What have you been listening to this month? If you blog your playlists I'd love to know about them so leave a link in the comments.

Monthly Playlist: January

January hasn't been a great month for music for me. I've found very few new songs/artists I like enough to put on a playlist but those I've chosen are very worthy indeed! Quality over quantity and all that Jazz.

I hadn't listened to much of Vampire Weekend's latest music other than Diane Young but when I heard Fearne play Unbelievers on R1 I immediately searched for their album Modern Vampires of the City on Spotify and was really impressed. If you were a fan of their earlier music but Diane Young put you off their new album, give this track a listen.

Katy B is back yayayayayayay! Her new album Little Red is to be released next month and I'm really excited to hear more of her new material (apparently she's been writing with Guy Chambers). Crying for No Reason is that perfect mix of dance and pop you would expect but her vocals are on a whole new level of awesomeness. If you didn't hear Katy B in the Radio 1 Live Lounge this week have a listen here. You will not be disappointed.

I've been listening to Chris Malinchak before every night out this month. If U Got It has the perfect dance beat to get you in the partying mood but the relaxed vibe makes it perfect to listen to whilst getting ready. Nobody needs a high tempo dance track to get their body unwillingly raving whilst trying to perfect winged eyeliner to go with your night time smokey eye.

What have you been listening to this month? I'd LOVE to know.

Lazy Sunday

If I had my way, every Sunday would be a lazy one, filled with food, music and films.

My ideal Sunday brunch meal is pancakes. My topping of choice? Banana, peanut butter and honey. Lately I've been using this recipe from Sophie Jane and the end result has been perfect pancakes every time.

When I'm relaxing I like to listen to mostly acoustic music and I'm a sucker for acoustic cover versions of song I'd usually boogie on the dance floor to. The way an artist puts their own stamp on somebody else's song but with the familiarity of the tune you love.. perfect. Here's my Lazy Sunday playlist for today

Finally, I like to spend the afternoon watching movies, usually comedies or rom coms. Sunday afternoon is not the time for thrillers or action films, I like to let my brain take a bit of a break. Naturally, at this time of year I'm watching Christmas movies, not your classics like Elf or The Grinch (far too soon) but all those terribly cheesey films channel 5 shows that make you cringe but still give you that festive feeling. I began watching A Boyfriend for Christmas, next up is Noel and then Annie Claus is Coming to Town... yeah, I've not heard of them either.

How are you spending your Sunday? What's your ideal Sunday brunch?

Monthly Playlist

Every month I make a Spotify playlist of all the songs I've been regularly listening too. My taste is pretty varied and so it's usually a mixed bag of genres and this month is no exception.

A few weeks ago i saw Babyshambles play live so had to include one of their newest tracks and one of their classics in my playlist. The gig was great, I've seen Pete Doherty live a couple of times but this was the first time I saw him play with Babyshambles. As usual he was unpredictable on stage but his performance was flawless.

Katy Perry's new album has been blurring from my speakers a lot. I'm a massive fan of hers and although I preferred her more up-beat Teenage Dreams album, I'm so excited she's back with new material. I'm keeping my fingers crossed she announces a UK tour soon.

I heard Hoodie Allen's song Small Town on a YouTube look book and couldn't get it out of my head for days. Although it's not a new release it's new to my ears and I discovering new artists.

What have you been listening to this past month?
