Lush Haul Review - Skydancer

Lush haul beauty blog review

Lush haul skydancer review

Every time Lush release new products I cannot resist popping in and have a look smell. It's fair to say I was pretty overwhelmed by the new additions and spent a good twenty minutes annoying the sales assistant with my indecisiveness. Finally I settled on Skydancer. The first thing that swayed me was the size. As much as I love lush I can't always bring myself to spend £5 on a bath but selling for just £3.95 and being larger than their average bath bomb I knew it would be worth the money. But what sealed the deal for me was that the profits from each Skydancer sold goes towards tagging English Hen Harriers in a bid to save them from extinction. This is why I love Lush - not only do they care about producing good quality products, they care about the environment, animal and human rights. Lush, I love you.

skydancer lush review

Now when I was in the shop smelling everything, I think my nose might have been slightly overwhelmed because only when I got home did I realise that the main scent in Skydancer was liquorice. I feared I'd be bathing in a sambucca-like bath but after a couple of days the scent became less daunting. The floral notes balanced out and I knew it was time. As you can see, I broke off a chunk rather than use the entire bath bomb all in one go. I try and do this with most Lush products, very rarely will I use a whole bath bomb or bubble bar. The water turned an awesome green colour, it reminded me of those gooey little Alien things from the 90's but I liked it all the same.

Lush Skydancer

As per most Lush products, I was left with lovely soft skin and for once there was very little residue left in the bath afterwards although it's worth baring in mind I did use a small amount. If you're in Lush I urge you to give Skydancer a chance and support the English Hen Harriers cause but please don't be put off by the liquorice, it works a lot better than you'd think.

Have you bought anything from the new Lush collection?

5 things that made me happy in August

instagram: @theonewith_lucy

One The Bake Off is back! I love food. I will pretty much watch any tv show that revolves around people cooking and eating (suggestions welcome). GBBO is probably the only TV show I've properly watched this month and so far Ian is a definite favourite. I don't think he'll win though - there's bound to be a dark horse who rises through the ranks and pips him at the post in true reality tv competition style!

Two I read and watched Papertowns this month and I just can't. John Green has done it again. Unlike TFIOS I enjoyed the film just as much as the book, perhaps because I'd seen the trailer before I started reading and so Cara D was always Margo to me. I don't want to say much about the plot incase of spoilers. I'll probably be reading Looking for Alaska soon in my quest to make my way through JG's collection.

Three This empowering video by MuchelleB on youtube about how to be a badass babe. I feel so lucky to be living at a time when there is so much positivity and encouragement in the feminist community and strong powerful women are recognised for their successes.  This being said, we all need a little encouragement every now and then and Michelle's channel is all about that! I spoke more about her in my fave YTers post here so if you're looking for some new vids have a read.

Four We know who A is!!! The PLL summer finale this month has been a long time coming. Granted I haven't been watching the show for 6(?) years like lots of viewers, I actually binge watched the first 4 seasons on Netflix and have been hooked ever since. Although I had mixed feelings about the reveal of A, red coat and black veil I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I can rest easy at night knowing who has tortured the girls and more importantly WHY for all these years.

Five The Race For Life! I actually ran the race last month but finished collecting my sponsor money for it last week. I raised just over £300 for cancer research. Everybody knows somebody who has fought or is fighting this terrible disease and to know I've made even the tiniest of contributions towards cancer research makes me very happy.

What's made you happy this month?

Throwback Thursday - The 90s Pop Playlist

Ever since the Spice Girls announced their reunion tour earlier this month, albeit without my fave Vicky B, I've been reminiscing about all the cheesey pop songs that were the soundtrack to my 90s childhood. I remember making up dance routines to C'est la Vie and copying Steps' moves to One For Sorrow every playtime and honestly, I thought I was destined for pop stardom. Sadly that wasn't to be but a quick flick through this playlist and I'm right back in the 90s wearing my crop top and pedal pushers.

I hope these songs bring back some memories for you too, what else were you listening to in the 90s?

New York City themed wishlist

Guess what.. I'm going to New York! I'm so excited I'll tell anybody who'll listen about the trip I'll be embarking on in 192 days. Yeah, 192. That's March in case you don't want to do the maths yourself. I know, I know.. it's a little premature but I've been wanting to go to the Big Apple my whole life, it's even on my bucket list so I just cannot contain my excitement.

The scratch off map from ASOS is a must buy, it'll be great to keep in a scrapbook of the trip and I'm desperate for the New York necklace from Topshop too.

Have you been to NYC? Do you have any advice, tips or even a blog post about it? If you do please link it below, I'll definitely be reading them.

My Favourite YouTubers

Just recently I've had such a love/hate affair with YouTube. An increasing number of YTers are churning out similar videos and the lack of original, creative content is becoming tiresome. Finding new YTers also seems to be proving difficult since I only ever see well established channels promoted. I decided to trawl through my subscriptions and make sure the only channels in there were ones I love. I realised there were a few people whose videos I could never miss out on and those are the ones I'm going to share with you.

MuchelleB So much more than a fashion Vlogger, Michelle makes a mixed bag of videos and that's what I love. YouTube should be about creativity and Michelle shares her style in lookbooks and fashion DIYs but she also uses her videos as a platform to voice her opinion on a range of topics and give advice too. She's also hella funny and flying the girl power flag. If you like short videos that get to the point and spark conversation, she's your girl.

Em Ford I've read Em's beauty blog from the beginning when her niche was pale skin but in the past few months her popularity rocketed with a series of acne coverage videos on YT and Instagram. Unless you're completely new to YT/the online beauty community you'll probably have seen Emma's 'You Look Disgusting' video she made last month. Even if you're not looking for acne coverage advice I'd still recommend checking out her tutorials. This Margot Robbie make up look is one of my favourites.

Miss Budget Beauty Probably one of the few channels I've stuck with from when I first started watching YT. I find that as a person's channel grows their videos change but MBB stuck to her roots but added a couple of other channels to broaden her audience. The beauty community is pretty saturated nowadays but if you're looking for honest reviews from a reliable and relatable source then you should check out Khila's channel. I can't pick a favourite video of hers but her recent first impressions for a full face of make up using New Look's own brand was on point and perfectly catered towards her viewers.

The Stream TV One for the TV show fandoms out there. If you follow me on twitter you'll know I'm obsessed with Pretty Little Liars and that's how I came to find this channel. Each week after the episode airs the after show is streamed live and the lovely Ashley, Sinead, Meghan and Stephanie discuss the goings on in Rosewood. There's lots of interaction with fan theories and chance to discuss where viewers think the show is heading. It's not only PLL the stream make after shows for, there's Vampire diaries, Real Housewives, Arrow and more. If you need a community to chat about your latest TV obsession, you'll probably find one here.

Which channels have you been watching lately? Recommendations are always welcome.

Manchester | Black Milk Cereal Dive

Black milk cereal manchester review

manchester hipster guide

cereal cafe buzzfeed

I'd read about Cereality New York and Cereal Killer Cafe London with envy so when the north west had their very own piece of the cereal cafe trend I couldn't wait to get try it myself.

Black Milk Cereal Dive is Manchester's very own Cereal Cafe. Situated on the 2nd floor of Afflecks, Black milk has as many cereals as you could wish for and you get to play cereal chef to create your own delicious combination. I opted for Toffee Crisp with Curiously Cinnamon, soya milk and topped off with mini marshmallows. As delicious as that was, the part I was most excited about was the chocolate bowl my cereal concoction was served in. This is an optional extra but you with the choice of milk, dark or white chocolate you will not regret choosing one.

Next time I'm in Manchester I'll be back at Black Milk, there are far too many cereals to try that one visit just isn't enough. Next time I'll be giving flavoured milk a try too.

What's your favourite cereal? Have you been to a cereal cafe?

Pretty Little Liars - The Finale Tag

This week the episode all PLL fans have been waiting for will finally be aired and I for one cannot wait! I spend way too much of my free time scrolling through theories on twitter and tumblr and whilst part of me is desperate to figure it out, another part of me never wants the mystery that is A to be solved. You can read my previous PLL Tag here but I thought an updated one was well overdue. If you're not up to date with season 6 then stop reading now because this post will no doubt be full of spoilers.

PLL Pretty Little Liars A Reveal

Who's been you favourite member of the A team so far? Definitely Mona. Janel Parrish had played such a good part. We've had geeky Mona, cool Mona, crazy Mona and dead Mona! I'm still not fully convinced that Mona is 100% off the A team or at least she knows more that she's letting on.

What's the most elaborate theory you've read? The 'Aria is A' theory is just ridiculous IMO. In earlier seasons it definitely made sense and lots of things pointed towards her but the story has progressed way too much. Nevertheless, the theories are still flying round on #PLLTheory on Twitter. Sorry guys, not gonna happen.

Who would surprise you most if they were revealed as A? Caleb! It's obvious the writers have made him look suspicious as of late but I'd still be completely baffled. We don't know a lot about his family or his background and there's lots of gaps in his story that could means he could be Charles.

Who would disappoint you most if they were revealed as A? Wren! I know this theory is one of the most popular but it's so popular it wouldn't shock me at all. Many things have happened to the Liars that have links to hospitals and medicine plus Wren is around the same age as Charles would be and in that sense would fit but I think it would be a lazy ending. I want to be completely gobsmacked when we see A's face on Tuesday night and if it was Wren, I wouldn't be.

Okay, time for your theories/predictions..

Who is Red Coat? Sarah Harvey! I think she's always been red coat, probably on and off for years. It would explain why A didn't chip her and why she's always acting sketchy. I don't think her feelings for Emily are genuine and she's just a mole, getting the inside info for A.

Who is Black Veil/Black Widow? Mrs Grunwald. I hope she is actually related to the DiLaurentis family and comes with lots of answers about Charles. I've read a theory about Toby's mum - Marion Cavanaugh being black veil which would blow my mind if she's alive and obviously the Melissa theories are quite strong, especially baring in mind her confession tape.

The golden question.. who is A? Argh I have no idea. I love the theory that Charles wanted to be a girl (hence the two dresses Ali finds in the flashback)and is now CeCe Drake. I can find flaws in almost every theory so whatever happens at the moment A is revealed you can bet I'll have a billion questions that I hope will be answered after the time jump (although I don't see how they would incorporate that into the storyline).

Let me know if you do this TAG in the comments below :)

Yankee Candle | Fresh Cut Roses

Yankee Candle Fresh Cut Roses Review discount code

I love Roses and I love candles so you can imagine how happy I was when my mum presented me with a little gift last week and Fresh Cut Roses was beneath the wrapping paper. Although it's my favourite scent, I find Rose candles to be a little hit and miss but I'm usually impressed with Yankee Candle so was eager to give this one a try.

This scent seriously lives up to its name. I've had a few rose scented candles that I find way too sweet and artificial smelling but this one is fresh and crisp and true to life. My major disappointment was that the scent just didn't fill my bedroom which for a Yankee Candle is pretty disappointing. I'm not sure I'd splurge on the large jar for this one but I'd buy the reed defuser, this jar in particular is beautiful.

What's your favourite scent?

5 uses for your free beauty samples

1Trying before you buy is the ultimate benefit of keeping your samples. If you're on the hunt for the perfect volumising shampoo then search the web for some samples - more companies offer them than you'd think. Lush are a great company for samples too. If you're looking to try a product of theirs just ask for a sample and they'll happily oblige. I'm no beauty blogger myself but if I was I'd hoard sample products like no tomorrow and post endless reviews at no cost to myself.

2Sample products are the perfect size to slip into your suitcase for a weekend away. We all know how much heavier our bags become once we've added our moisturisers, exfoliators and shower gels so a sample size will not only free up space but take the weight off as well. As samples tend to be less than 100ml they make for great additions to your carry on bag too. Mini toothpaste tubes and hand moisturisers are perfect for this.

3When the end of the month is almost upon us but payday seems so far away and we simply cannot justify repurchasing our expensive but all time favourite salon quality shampoo, introduce your samples into the mix. It'll put off spending that little bit longer and many samples come with money off vouchers for your purchase - trust me, your overdraft will thank you!

4Just imagine how cute it would be to arrive for a weekend stay at your besties' house and find she has prepared a welcome basket of mini beauty essentials just for you. Many beauty samples will fit perfectly into a welcome basket and shows how much you appreciate their visit without costing you a penny. This is a great opportunity to give away products you have no use for too - if your BFF rocks curly hair whilst your is poker straight then give her that curl defining mousse you got your a Glossybox subscription last month.

5Did you know that food banks aren't just for food? Families in crisis in our country need things like soap, toothpaste, sanitary products and shampoo as well as essential food items. Just enter your postcode to find your local food bank and take along your unwanted stash. Sample sizes might not seem like you're making a difference but even the smallest of donations will help.

DIY: Bobby Pin Storage Beauty Hack

Bobby Pins storage ideas

Okay girls, I know I'm not alone with this problem. My bobby pins disappear into thin air. They have a severe case of missing socks in the washing machine syndrome and I'm sick of it. So I turned to Pinterest and found this genius DIY beauty hack that I couldn't resist trying out for myself.

You'll need:
An empty tic tac container
Your bobby pins
A sharpie, stickers or some washi tape to decorate

DIY Bobby Pin Storage Beauty Hack

Remove the label from the tic tac container. You might need give it a wipe with a damp sponge to remove any excess glue. And that's the hardest part done! Now it the fun part. Decorate as much or as little as you like. I opted for this glitter washi tape I bought from eBay for a bargain 99p. Stripes of patterned washi tape would also look fantastic or you could keep it simple with some sharpie polka dots. Once your design is done, pop your bobby pins inside and throw your new container into your make up bag.

Will you be trying this? I'd love to hear any other beauty storage hacks you have in the comments below.
