5 First World Problems I've Complained About This Week

Funny First World Problems

ONE.Starbucks' Christmas drinks started before Costa Coffee's. Costa's are my favourite.. pass me a black forest hot chocolate please!

TWO.I couldn't find my Tangle Teezer and had to use a regular hair brush like I'm some sort of peasant - I swear it never used to be THAT painful to brush out knots.

THREE.Charging my iPod overnight only to find I hadn't turned the switch on at the wall.

FOUR.Having to walk to work without listening to said iPod and instead listening to the real life early morning hustle and bustle around me. Beeping horns and strangers' chit chat < my Disney playlist.

FIVE.I found that one spot at my work desk where I can get full phone signal only to be told the very next day I was told I'll be moving desks.

If I'm completely honest, I could have written 100 of these and that makes me somewhat disappointed in myself. Maybe next week I'll strive to overlook these sorts of problems that aren't really problems at all. At the very most they're slight inconveniences. Please tell me you're guilty of this too. What first world problems have you had this week?

5 scary movies for people who don't like scary movies!

I love halloween. I love dressing up, carving pumpkins and filling my room with ghostly decor. There's one thing I can't get on board with though; scary movies. I guess the entire scary aspect of Halloween sort of puts me off a bit. With that in mind, I've compiled a list of some of my favourite not so scary movies!

Casper. If you're a 90's kid, this one is a childhood classic. Casper is the spirit of a 12 year old boy and he is anything but scary.

Addam's Family. They're a spookily strange family but once you get past that and embrace the weird and wonderful you can enjoy the film for all it's brilliance. Although I must admit. Thing (the hand) scared the hell out of me as a child.

Harry Potter. Wizards, spells, friendship, love and magic - you all know the drill.

Monsters, Inc. I much prefer MI to the prequel Monster's University. It challenges the concept children have of scary monsters but there really is no age limit on this one.

Hocus Pocus. The classic search of the spell for immortality but not your average Disney film. I loved this as a kid but haven't watched it in years. Only looking back have I realised SJP plays Sarah.

What's your favourite non-scary Halloween movie? Or are you all for a fright night movie session?

5 things I'd bring back from the 90s

Inflatable Furniture I'm surprised this didn't make a comeback throughout the recession. If I remember correctly I had an inflatable chair and sofa and my brother did too, honestly we were so cool.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch I wanted to be Sabrina. Her magical powers, gorgeous hair, cool Aunts and a talking cat. Plus I had a massive crush on Harvey. My favourite episode was when Sabrina and her aunts made the 'perfect guy' from some old recipe and he turned out not to be all they'd hoped. Moral of the story: don't be so fussy, nobody is perfect. See, awesome life lessons too.

Jelly Bands Remember those coloured band everyone would wear in primary school and the more you had the cooler you were? And if you had glitter bands that sort of meant you were Queen Bee? At what point did the rule come into force that if you broke a bracelet you'd kissed a guy? That ruined it all for me but still, I loved those bracelets.

Body Glitter I'd lather that stuff all over my arms and cheeks before hitting up the school disco. The way I sparkled under those lights would put Edward Cullen to shame.

Girl & Boy groups Nowadays there's either boy bands or girl bands. What happened to successful pop groups of mixed gender? You rarely see them now. The likes of Steps and S Club 7 had everything I wanted; guys to swoon over and girls with way cool hair and make up me and my friends could copy.

What would you bring back from the 90s?

5 ways to support child cancer awareness this month

Child cancer awareness month

One Spread the word! Make it your aim to educate at least 5 people about child cancer awareness this month. There are many images with stats and facts you could share such as the one above or take a look at the Be Child Cancer Aware campaign on Facebook.

Two Wear a gold ribbon, eyeliner or nail polish. Upload a photo to twitter or instagram with #gogold #childcancerawareness There's always a group of sinycs ready to tell you that your hastags aren't helping anybody but the entire point is to raise AWARENESS and encourage your followers to do so too.

Three Want something simple and free? Add the gold twibbon to your twitter profile pic (I believe you can do this for facebook too). It takes no time whatsoever and might just prompt a conversation. There are lots of twibbons to choose from but I use this one.

Four If you're looking to go the extra mile why not sign up to the bone marrow register or donate blood. This one isn't for everybody but if you think you can do it then sign up and you will save lives.

Five Last year TK Maxx raised over £4 million for childhood cancer research. They're taking part this year and you can get involved by donating a bag of unwanted clothes (just take it in store) or by buying a gold ribbon pin from the counter and wearing it daily to show your support.

Do you think there's something you could do to raise awareness for Childhood Cancer this month?

5 things I love about Autumn

One. Everything becomes way more picturesque in Autumn. The picture above is from last year when I had the pleasure of walking through an autumnal haven everyday. I love to see the colours changing of the leaves that eventually fall and crunch beneath my feet.

Two. Cosy Sundays. A brushed cotton duvet, thick throws and a onesie. Drink several hot mugs of tea whilst switching between catching up with your favourite blogs, reading a few chapters of your book and Netflixing.

Three. Nobody expects you to have a tan in Autumn. I'm pale and I hate it but Throughout Autumn and winter I try to embrace it. My legs are rarely on show and I don't feel half as self conscious about my milk bottle white skin as I do in summer. Not fake tanning/ maintaining my fake tan adds a goof few hours each week that I can spend doing more important things (watching Netflix).

Four. Layers. A/W fashion is a hundred times more interesting. Granted much more thought and effort goes in to my outfits at this time of year but even on a lazy day, a dress with tights, ankle boots and a chunky knitted scarf looks far better than anything I throw on in summer.

Five. Switching up my nail polish. Each season I rearrange my nail polishes and Autumn sees the reintroduction of berry and earthy toned polishes. These are my absolute favourites, I think I'll give them a post of their own later in the month.

What's your favourite thing about this time of year? I've been updating my Autumn Pinterest board, take a look.

5 things that made me happy in August

instagram: @theonewith_lucy

One The Bake Off is back! I love food. I will pretty much watch any tv show that revolves around people cooking and eating (suggestions welcome). GBBO is probably the only TV show I've properly watched this month and so far Ian is a definite favourite. I don't think he'll win though - there's bound to be a dark horse who rises through the ranks and pips him at the post in true reality tv competition style!

Two I read and watched Papertowns this month and I just can't. John Green has done it again. Unlike TFIOS I enjoyed the film just as much as the book, perhaps because I'd seen the trailer before I started reading and so Cara D was always Margo to me. I don't want to say much about the plot incase of spoilers. I'll probably be reading Looking for Alaska soon in my quest to make my way through JG's collection.

Three This empowering video by MuchelleB on youtube about how to be a badass babe. I feel so lucky to be living at a time when there is so much positivity and encouragement in the feminist community and strong powerful women are recognised for their successes.  This being said, we all need a little encouragement every now and then and Michelle's channel is all about that! I spoke more about her in my fave YTers post here so if you're looking for some new vids have a read.

Four We know who A is!!! The PLL summer finale this month has been a long time coming. Granted I haven't been watching the show for 6(?) years like lots of viewers, I actually binge watched the first 4 seasons on Netflix and have been hooked ever since. Although I had mixed feelings about the reveal of A, red coat and black veil I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I can rest easy at night knowing who has tortured the girls and more importantly WHY for all these years.

Five The Race For Life! I actually ran the race last month but finished collecting my sponsor money for it last week. I raised just over £300 for cancer research. Everybody knows somebody who has fought or is fighting this terrible disease and to know I've made even the tiniest of contributions towards cancer research makes me very happy.

What's made you happy this month?

My Favourite YouTubers

Just recently I've had such a love/hate affair with YouTube. An increasing number of YTers are churning out similar videos and the lack of original, creative content is becoming tiresome. Finding new YTers also seems to be proving difficult since I only ever see well established channels promoted. I decided to trawl through my subscriptions and make sure the only channels in there were ones I love. I realised there were a few people whose videos I could never miss out on and those are the ones I'm going to share with you.

MuchelleB So much more than a fashion Vlogger, Michelle makes a mixed bag of videos and that's what I love. YouTube should be about creativity and Michelle shares her style in lookbooks and fashion DIYs but she also uses her videos as a platform to voice her opinion on a range of topics and give advice too. She's also hella funny and flying the girl power flag. If you like short videos that get to the point and spark conversation, she's your girl.

Em Ford I've read Em's beauty blog from the beginning when her niche was pale skin but in the past few months her popularity rocketed with a series of acne coverage videos on YT and Instagram. Unless you're completely new to YT/the online beauty community you'll probably have seen Emma's 'You Look Disgusting' video she made last month. Even if you're not looking for acne coverage advice I'd still recommend checking out her tutorials. This Margot Robbie make up look is one of my favourites.

Miss Budget Beauty Probably one of the few channels I've stuck with from when I first started watching YT. I find that as a person's channel grows their videos change but MBB stuck to her roots but added a couple of other channels to broaden her audience. The beauty community is pretty saturated nowadays but if you're looking for honest reviews from a reliable and relatable source then you should check out Khila's channel. I can't pick a favourite video of hers but her recent first impressions for a full face of make up using New Look's own brand was on point and perfectly catered towards her viewers.

The Stream TV One for the TV show fandoms out there. If you follow me on twitter you'll know I'm obsessed with Pretty Little Liars and that's how I came to find this channel. Each week after the episode airs the after show is streamed live and the lovely Ashley, Sinead, Meghan and Stephanie discuss the goings on in Rosewood. There's lots of interaction with fan theories and chance to discuss where viewers think the show is heading. It's not only PLL the stream make after shows for, there's Vampire diaries, Real Housewives, Arrow and more. If you need a community to chat about your latest TV obsession, you'll probably find one here.

Which channels have you been watching lately? Recommendations are always welcome.

5 uses for your free beauty samples

1Trying before you buy is the ultimate benefit of keeping your samples. If you're on the hunt for the perfect volumising shampoo then search the web for some samples - more companies offer them than you'd think. Lush are a great company for samples too. If you're looking to try a product of theirs just ask for a sample and they'll happily oblige. I'm no beauty blogger myself but if I was I'd hoard sample products like no tomorrow and post endless reviews at no cost to myself.

2Sample products are the perfect size to slip into your suitcase for a weekend away. We all know how much heavier our bags become once we've added our moisturisers, exfoliators and shower gels so a sample size will not only free up space but take the weight off as well. As samples tend to be less than 100ml they make for great additions to your carry on bag too. Mini toothpaste tubes and hand moisturisers are perfect for this.

3When the end of the month is almost upon us but payday seems so far away and we simply cannot justify repurchasing our expensive but all time favourite salon quality shampoo, introduce your samples into the mix. It'll put off spending that little bit longer and many samples come with money off vouchers for your purchase - trust me, your overdraft will thank you!

4Just imagine how cute it would be to arrive for a weekend stay at your besties' house and find she has prepared a welcome basket of mini beauty essentials just for you. Many beauty samples will fit perfectly into a welcome basket and shows how much you appreciate their visit without costing you a penny. This is a great opportunity to give away products you have no use for too - if your BFF rocks curly hair whilst your is poker straight then give her that curl defining mousse you got your a Glossybox subscription last month.

5Did you know that food banks aren't just for food? Families in crisis in our country need things like soap, toothpaste, sanitary products and shampoo as well as essential food items. Just enter your postcode to find your local food bank and take along your unwanted stash. Sample sizes might not seem like you're making a difference but even the smallest of donations will help.

If you have anymore Ideas I'd love to read them in the comments below.

5 things Netflix newbies need to know

via Ebay
OneNever feel ashamed about the amount of time you spend Netflixing. Yep I said Netflixing. It's a genuine activity that, granted requires very little activity at all, but it's a real thing okay?!

TwoAs with every marathon, preparation is the key. You can't just embark upon a Netflix marathon without the prior planning. Basic essentials include your comfiest indoor clothes - you know those ones that aren't quite pyjamas but you definitely wouldn't wear them outside of the house? Yeah those ones. Have enough snacks to see you through the entire marathon and make sure you stay hydrated. Not too much though, anymore than two toilet breaks per marathon will seriously damage your PB.

ThreeIf you've just started a new series you MUST resist the temptation to do a quick wiki search to find the name of that actress you recognise or scroll through the tumblr hashtags to reblog a GIF of your new OTP. There will be spoilers. You will regret it. Don't. Just don't.

FourIt's okay if you'd rather be Netflixing than at an event or social gathering. Don't feel guilty about your new favourite past time. Embrace it.

FiveThat sense of loss when your favourite Netflix show has ended is completely normal. It's okay to grieve the loss of a world you've emerged yourself in for hours on end. It happens to all of us. You won't be the first and you certainly won't be the last to feel this way. When the time is right you'll move on and your life will soon feel full again. As you begin to move forward on your Netflixing journey. Seek out Netflix recommendations through the Netflix TAG popping up on blogs. If you're wondering what to watch on Netflix right now, you can read my post here.

5 free ways to make someone's day

Free random acts of kindness RAKs

1Leave your unwanted books - Recently finished reading a book you love? Leave it on the train, in a cafe or at the local bus stop for the next person. This can work with DVDs too.

2Spread some social media love - We spend the majority of our days on social media so why not use it to send some good vibes. Try searching #happybirthdaytome and wish somebody many happy returns or #nervous for people about to take an exam, or sitting their driving test and wish them good luck.

3Let somebody go ahead of you - Got 5 minutes to spare in the supermarket? Let somebody skip the queue and go in front of you. I've had it done to me at the train station and it really did make my day

4Give up your seat - Commuting to work? Let somebody take your set on the train or bus, you never know they might repay the favour one day.

5Give away your loyalty card - If you're lunch time coffee shop has a 'buy 6 get the next one free' type loyalty card then this one's for you. Once you fill the card instead of redeeming the free drink for yourself buy a drink for a homeless person or pass the loyalty card to the person queuing behind you.

These are all little things that will cost you nothing but might just brighten up somebody's miserable day. If they ask you why, just say 'why not' and encourage them to do something good for somebody else next.
